The organization we went with to Guatemala, Healing Waters International, partners with local churches to help provide clean drinking water to the community and enable the local church with the resources to provide community outreach. The local church that we assisted was San Miguel Petapa, a suburb of Guatemala city. This church, as I've already said, is on fire for Jesus and serving their community in a mighty way, partly because of the monetary resources they receive through their water filtration business and mostly because of their love for God. You can read more about how this church was founded and how this pastor came to know God here.
The church in San Miguel Petapa. ADU stands for Aguas de Unidad which is Healing Waters brand name in Spanish.

The community of San Miguel Petapa. These little filtration businesses are monitored by the government like a bottling company, frustrating since that increases the cost to the people. The 5 gallon jugs are owned by the people so when they come to the church and pay approximately 70 cents to have it filled, the church has to clean it according to these bottling company standards. So they are cleaned with chlorine, soap, and then finally rinsed with pure water. Then they are filled and sealed with a cap. It is an amazingly fast and efficient process and I really loved how clean it was. The room that they fill these jugs up with were absolutely surgical clean. Cleaner than some US operating rooms.
