I realize that no "good" mother ever compares her children, but none of those mothers are being honest if they say they don't. Rusty, by leaps and bounds (literally), has been more advanced than Blynn physically. He was using utensils way before she was, jumping off of things and landing confidently on his feet, and bravely sliding down slides way before she would even attempt to climb the ladder for the slide. In fact, she was still forcing me to hold her hand when she went down the slide when she was 3. But when it comes to talking, there is no competition. Blynn had this down very early and was speaking articulately and in full sentence by now. Rusty on the other hand has been slow to pull it all together verbally. Now I'll be the first to admit that I do not work with him like I did with Blynn, and who needs to talk when your older sister talks all day long. If there is a moment of silence, the rest of us try to enjoy it by not talking ourselves.
This last month, though, Rusty has had a vocabulary explosion. He is saying all sorts of things that are understandable to others and Todd and I are translating less and less for people. He has even had a couple of phone conversations with family who thought they were talking to Blynn. It is so much fun hearing what has been going through that handsome head of his these last 21 months.
These pictures have no correlation whatsoever to the above observations, but I couldn't resist this outfit he put on. He makes his own costumes. He doesn't need any mass produced Disney paraphernalia, slap on a bib backwards for a cape and his mud boots and he is good to go. Oh yeah, always remember that superheroes like to wear cloth diapers.
