Coolio
Blynn comes home with her work from the week from school and sometimes they get free draw time where they can incorporate stickers into their drawings. This is a self-portrait Blynn drew of herself, and as you can see she is prepared for some sort of serious home improvement project. And just in case somebody calls, her pink cell is close by.Friday, October 16, 2009
Pumpkin Address
I'm in love with white pumpkins this year. I don't know why! We went to Michael's today and bought these fake ones. I've been wanting to do something with our address numbers for awhile and I thought of doing it on the pumpkins. So first I printed the numbers in their mirror image and colored them in with a pencil.
Then I put them face down on the pumpkin and rubbed the other side with the pencil.
An image transfers onto the pumpkin and all you have to do is paint. I think I could have printed the image the correct way and pressed really hard while tracing it over the pumpkin, because these fake pumpkins are pretty soft.
Now all I need is to spruce up my porch a bit more. That is why I'm not showing you the whole porch!
I'm linking my project to A Soft Place to Land.

Mo Willems
The kids and I have fallen in love with the author Mo Willems' books. He is the author of the Don't Let the Pigeon... series. Which was our initial favorite and then we found out this was his most recent book, 'Knuffle Bunny'. Note that the Pigeon is hidden in all of his books.
It's about a Dad and daughter who head on down to the laundromat but accidentally put her prized bunny in the wash. We can totally relate to that with the recent incident with George.
Eventually they find Knuffle Bunny, but while reading this book 842 times to the kids I realized they had no clue what a laundromat is. So we had a field trip. And here they are, running around the laundromat looking for Knuffle Bunny and the patrons just looked at us like we were crazy. Which we are!Sunday, October 11, 2009
Lessons from a 4 year old
Rusty has not been feeling well, so we stayed home from church today. I tried to convince Blynn to stay home from church as I thought it would make for a more enjoyable morning for Rusty, but she was adamant about going to church. "But I want to learn at church today!" said with tears and sincerity. Nothing like getting an attitude adjustment from your daughter.Saturday, October 10, 2009
Saturday find
One of my favorite things to do is walk around the barns or implement graveyard as I call it, to find treasures. I have walked around these areas and been in them at least 1,382 times, but yet I still find new things. So, today I was in my favorite barn and I found this ear tag for cattle just hanging there on the wall with the number 6 on it. It has probably been hanging there for 50 years and I'm sure hung by my grandpa and now I get to enjoy it every day.Thursday, October 8, 2009
More Girly Skirts
Sew it seams (Oh that's terrible) that all of the women on the Martin side of the family were born in October. So I decided to make all of the girls the same skirt I've made once before and it turns out I'm getting better at it. My favorite part is choosing the fabric combos. Last week I sat down and made these 3 girly skirts which is a pattern from Pink Fig. They are pretty easy to make, so don't be too impressed.
I did learn how to do a french seam and a gathering stitch on youtube. So my finish work is much better on these skirts than on the first one.
For Blynn's, I decided to take a long sleeve shirt that had a stain on it and cover it up with some of the material. Then I put a button in the center and embroidered a stem on it. I think my next post may be Blynn's poses. She is seriously too much.

These are some blogs I follow that inspire my inner seamstress:HELLOmynameisHeather

Meet Samantha Grace
My sister and I had great fun throwing a shower for one of our close friends who has now been blessed with a baby girl. Here she is, her name is Samantha Grace!
Another one of our talented friends made this great little bag for her.
Have you ever made tissue flowers before? They are so easy and I think I'm going to put them up in Blynn's room, because I love them.

Our menu was sweet potato fries with cinnamon dip, chips with roasted eggplant dip, berry salad, and turkey tea sandwiches. And here is my child laborer picking basil leaves for me.Friday, October 2, 2009
Mirror, mirror

Blynn chose Snow White as her book last week from the library, and this evening we did a full re-enactment. I got to be the Evil Queen and Todd got to be Prince Charming. I'm not sure who Rusty is. Maybe Whiney! We did skip over the part where the huntsman gives the Evil Queen an animal's heart. I forget how graphic these books can be.
